Annex – Historic Neighbourhood

Until year 1886 northern border of Toronto was Bloor Street, which today is considered a main thoroughfare of the city. By the end of 1880s, a few small villages north of Bloor Street were annexed to the city of Toronto and began to develop as attractive places for residents with higher than average income. The style of houses was mostly Victorian era, but some architectural experiments showed the arrival of next century. Life of many Canadian writers and poets was connected to this neighbourhood and some dramatic events of 20th century still remind us about history of this area.
