Opulence on Jarvis Street

In spite of modernization efforts during ‘urban architectural revolution’ of 1960s and 70s, this street still has many superb private houses, which belonged to prominent people of Toronto, such as Jarvis, Massey, Gooderam and other families in the period of 1850-1890s. In 1910 a respectable magazine compared this street to Champs-Elysees in Paris. Walking tour on this street today will give tourists an idea what this street was once for people of Toronto. The tour is usually concluded in Allan Garden Conservatory – Public Park & nice botanical garden, initiated in 1858 by gift from prominent Torontonian politician and cultural leader George Allan.
